Is an associates degree alot better than just a certificate in automotive technology field?

im going to study for automotive technology in a community college. Will an associates degree be alot better than just a certificate. Will it increase your salary? Because I know alot of people who just have a certificate and not many with a degree in this field. Plus, in addition I know you still have to get ASE certified to be better. So what would be best to do? Any advice will helpful.
