Seeking advice and insight from school guidance counselors?

This questions is for anyone who is or has been a school guidance counselor. I am considering returning to college for more education to eventually obtain a guidance counselor job at a middle school, high school, or college. Can you tell me about the pros and cons of this career? Anything you have to say will be greatly appreciate. What are the stresses, rewards, and hurdles of the job. Will schools hire without a Masters Degree? Appreciate any input. Thanks.
