When you go to the bathroom on your period, is it (the toilet bowl)supposed to be filled with blood?

I'm confused. When I wipe there is blood, but not much. I wear pads to bed, but there is only spots when I wake up. I sleep with a towel under me, just inc ase...I've been having this since Saturday around 10. What's going on??
